Two New HDD Reamers
Created: January 2025. New HDD Reamers
Custom HDD Reamers Delivered for Kwinana Gas Pipeline Project
No Dig Equipment has custom engineered and supplied two heavy-duty horizontal directional drilling (HDD) reamers for Kier Contracting in Western Australia. Designed to pair with a Ditch Witch JT100 directional drill rig, the 18″ Fly Cutter and 16″ Barrel Reamer are currently deployed on a major gas pipeline installation project in Kwinana, WA.
Engineered with Heavy Duty 6 5/8″ API Regular shafts, these HDD backreamers are built to maximize durability, maintain borehole stability, and ensure efficient pullback in demanding ground conditions.

Why Run Fly Cutter & Barrel Reamers in Tandem?
Running an 18″ Fly Cutter alongside a 16″ Barrel Reamer creates a complementary cutting and packing mechanism ideal for trenchless utility installations:
Efficient Cutting: The Fly Cutter aggressively slices through tough clay, soil, and rock formations to open up the pilot hole.
Borehole Stabilization: The trailing Barrel Reamer smooths the tunnel wall, packs away loose cuttings, and maintains consistent hole diameter.
Reduced Pullback Torque: Operating in tandem optimizes drilling fluid circulation and reduces drag during pipe pullback.
Trenchless technology minimizes surface disruption, allowing utility contractors to safely install pipelines under roads and sensitive industrial environments with minimal ecological impact.
